ABOUT THE OWNER

OWNER OF TROPICALI DESIGN /
LANDSCAPE DESIGNER
CHARLIE SCHONWASSER
The calling was there from an early age, even if it took time to fully recognize it. I’ve always been someone who arranges and re-arranges my surroundings, instinctively shaping environments to create the best possible experience. Creativity has always been my natural language—expressed through spatial composition, natural flow, and the mood a space creates. At the same time, the outdoors has always felt like home. Nature was my place of grounding, curiosity, and inspiration, and over time it became clear that these two passions—creative expression and a deep connection to the natural world—were never separate paths, but one.
That deep appreciation for the outdoors ultimately shaped my desire to become a park ranger, a childhood dream rooted in stewardship, respect for the land, and a belief in nature’s ability to restore and inspire. Spending my days immersed in the landscapes I loved, while sharing their beauty and importance with others, reinforced the idea that thoughtful environments—natural or designed—have the power to deeply influence how we feel and live.

Today, I specialize in personalized, experience-driven design that maximizes the potential of spaces both large and small. Each space is carefully crafted to be immersive and transportive, while remaining grounded in comfort, function, and a sense of home. Creativity remains at the core of my work, guiding every decision from layout to material to the subtle details that bring a space to life.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Chico State University and an Associate’s degree in Art. After 12 years as a park ranger, I returned to school to earn a degree in Landscape Design in pursuit of starting my own landscape design business. This path allows me the creative freedom and flexibility of working for myself while raising my two boys.

I take great joy in working closely with my clients in crafting unique and amazing outdoor spaces that not only engage their senses but enhance their everyday living for years to come.
